亚利桑那州的大峡谷遭遇了一场大规模山洪暴发。此次灾害造成至少两人死亡，数人失踪，数十人需由直升机疏散。
这场严重的洪灾发生在光明天使峡谷，光明天使溪在此处变成了湍急的激流。据专家介绍，在西南季风季节，山洪暴发时有发生，但造成人员死亡的情况较为罕见。 此次洪水的强度因近期的一场野火而大大加剧，野火摧毁了植被，导致裸露的土壤无法吸收雨水。结果，大量泥沙、岩石和碎屑冲入峡谷，摧毁了为南缘供应淡水的“穿越峡谷输水管道”。
专家强调，在偏远地区徒步的游客必须关注天气预报，一旦该地区面临严重风暴威胁，应立即前往高地避险。
